Independence in the Community
Our students access the community in a variety of different ways depending on what it is they need for their development and learning.
Each class visits the community once per week using one of the school mini buses. The types of activities they may take part in are; shopping for a food technology lesson, visiting a gallery as part of their art curriculum or taking part in a swimming session at a leisure centre.
Some students may take part in work experience in the community if it is appropriate at venues like the Baltic Social and the Passport Office.
Many of our students in Key Stage 4 and 5 take part in The Duke of Edinburgh Award and many of the activities happen in the community for example, helping to improve the canal bank with the help of The Canal and River Trust.
