Food Technology

Food-TechnologyPupils at Redbridge follow a scheme of work from year 7 right through to post 16. The scheme of work has been carefully designed to allow pupils to develop and build upon their skills throughout their time at Redbridge. There is a strong emphasis on building independence and life skills which starts in year 7 by teaching the pupils to make a simple snack, in the post 16 department we extend this further by asking pupils to prepare their own meal. We also encourage our pupils to explore food from other cultures so each year group has a term of cooking foods from different countries eg Spain, Greece, Mexican etc.

We try were possible to link Food technology throughout other areas of the curriculum for example in our ASD classes pupils will make a shopping list of ingredients needed for a recipe during their Literacy lessons, they will then go and buy their ingredients during their minibus session and then come back to school and prepare their meal. We also link food into celebrations and festivals we might celebrate eg World cup.
